At A Bit of Country, guest suite and farm, we know that pets are an extension of your family. That is why we have opened our doors to our guests who travel with their dogs. The suite requires additional diligence when cleaning after the stay of occupants with a dog. We deliver to all our guests a unit that is clean and sanitary. We have a few guidelines that we adhere to, and with your cooperation, our suite remains well kept.

  • Our rate - is $10.00 per dog, per day. With the exception of long term stays, we do not request a damage deposit. We will keep you credit card number on file until after it is determined that no damages have occurred.
  • Sorry, we do not take cats. We have allergies.
  • Livestock and our own dogs - We have miscellaneous livestock and our dogs running around freely at times. The Lab is very friendly but rambunctious. Like all dogs they get territorial so early introductions are always a good thing. It is good practice to have your dog on a leash to avoid any difficulties. The Yellow Lab is a very avid and accomplished retriever and likes for people to play fetch with him. Please refrain from obliging him, we will explain to you when you get here. Our neighbours also have dogs and it is best to stay away from their driveway/property so that their dogs do not get all excited.
  • The Bedroom - for reasons of hygiene, we prefer that the dog does not stay in the bedroom and definitely not on the bed.
  • The living Room/Kitchen - The futon couch doubles as another bed and should receive the same kind of consideration as the bed. Since it gets a lot of daytime use, we provide a clean protective blanket that is kept on it for the entire length of your stay.
  • Most of our guests take their dog with them at all times, even when running short errands.
  • When he has "to go", living in the country makes that real easy. Just walk him down the common driveway past the point where it splits into individual driveways. The dogs are just too happy to run around and head for the side of the road and do their business. There is no need for 'pick up'. But, If the dog has to go urgently anywhere else, please clean up without delay. We provide plastic bags for this purpose. They are stored under the kitchen sink. You can throw the "doggie bags" into one of the garbage bins by the dog kennel. A flashlight is also provided in the suite for walks in the dark.
  • Dog Parks - For a change of scenery you may wish to parks close by. The BX Ranch Park (this one has a nice walk in the trees along the creek), Mutrie Park and the Gray Canal Trail (this trail runs behind private acreages). A list of more parks is provided in the Vernon Guide. There are copies in the suite.
  • If you have more than one dog - let's chat about it.
  • If you have any concerns about anything we have brought up, please discuss it with us. We are open to suggestions and would like to work with you. This is a privilege we extend and is not revenue generating. Before finalizing your reservations, please acknowledge that you have read the policy and have no objections.

We look forward to sharing

a bit of country with you and your dog!
